COVID-19 SUPPLEMENTAL PAID SICK LEAVE FAQs ARE NOW OUT
Soon after publishing the English and Spanish versions of the model workplace poster regarding COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave which was renewed through September, as promised, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) has now released its FAQs on the subject which many employers have been anxiously awaiting.
As briefly summarized in the FAQs:
2022 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave provides covered employees up to 80 hours of COVID-19 related paid leave, with up to 40 of those hours for isolation & quarantine, receiving vaccines, and caring for a child whose school or place of care is closed and up to an additional 40 of those hours available only when an employee, or family member for whom the employee provides care, tests positive for COVID-19.
The 37 helpful and easy to understand FAQs are organized by category, including (1) General questions, (2) Reasons for taking leave, (3) Start Date and End Date, (4) Requesting Leave from an Employer, (5) Calculating an Employee’s Hours of Leave, (6) Permissive Limits on Use and Verification, (7) Credits, (8) Payment of Leave, Record-Keeping, and Paystubs, (9) Enforcement, and (10) Relation to Other Laws.
The DIR’s answers will hopefully alleviate some of the burden employers have been feeling trying to find their way through the various new administrative responsibilities brought to the workplace by COVID-19. Other helpful tidbits on the DIR website are links to a guide entitled “Do I qualify for COVID-Related Supplemental Paid Sick Leave?” where one can answer a few questions to find out eligibility and educational materials and other resources regarding COVID-19.
